The Painting Gallery at the Doges’ Palace in Venice has been opened

March 25th, 2023 Inside the Doges’ Palace in Venice a new painting gallery has just been opened in the rooms that were once occupied by the Criminal Court.
These rooms, so precious in particular for the presence of the gilt leather decoration on the walls, now host some paintings that have always been present in the palace, but not exhibited for a long time, such as Venice and Neptune, by Giambattista Tiepolo, as well as works of art from private collections, given on a long term loan, as for example the fabulous Mary Magdalene by Artemisia Gentileschi, or the tender portrait of the woman loved by Titian with their young daughter.
Some Flemish works of art also attract our attention: a Male Portrait by Van Eyck, a suffering Christ surrounded by caricatural figures, painted by Quentin Metsys, and, last but not least, the mind blowing Infernal Allegory by an anonymous follower of Hieronymus Bosch’s.
