After a two year restoration, the scaffolding in front of Tintoretto’s Crucifixion, painted in 1565 for Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice, has been finally removed.
Non-invasive investigations have shown the presence of grids and preparatory drawings, as well as several pentimenti, under the pictorial surface. Then a thorough cleaning of the canvas has been carried out, in particular to get rid of the yellowish varnishes. Finally, the gaps have been meticulously filled.
The result? Vibrant colors, sharper figures, in particular the incredibly luminous Christ on the cross.
We’ll be waiting for you, to show you this extraordinary painting, one of the best masterpieces by Tintoretto!
